Vogue P917: Wrap Coat Styled

Just wanted to share a picture of me wearing my Vogue P917 Wrap.  I paired it with an all black ensemble for the color pop effect.

Me wearing my glam wrap!  Yes it's 70 degrees in FL so this is just a photo op and I'm burning up! #Itsmelaniedarling #seamstress #sewing #sewist #sewcialist #sewingblogger #asewinglife #imakemyownclothes #imadethis #diy #diyer #diystyle #diyfashion #dres

Vogue P917: Multi Colored Suiting Wrap

I absolutely loved this fabric and had it in my stash for at least a year.  I had no idea what I was going to make with it when I purchased it from Fabric Mart.  The colors struct me as beautiful, but because the way Florida weather is set up I didn't want to make a coat or suit.  I am so glad I came across this pattern while drawer surfing in Joann's.  The moment I laid eyes on it this fabric came to mine.  A perfect pairing I think.

I probably will not get an opportunity to wear it, the weather here in Central Florida is beautiful and it doesn't appear we will get any weather below 65 degrees anytime soon, so I guess I'll hand it up and wait for next January, when the temperature may dip down into the 50's, and I can justify wearing it.

Birthday Sewing McCalls 7099: Multi Chain Jumpsuit with Contrast Sleeves and Upper Back

My 47th Birthday was Sunday February 22, though we celebrated on Saturday since my Son could only come home for a few hours for my birthday.   I decided to make myself a jumpsuit and also to submit it in a Facebook Sewing group contest, but I got sick with the flu last week so needless to say it didn't happen.  So I finished it up on Monday night.

My vision for this Jumpsuit McCalls 7099 took a drastic turn when I laid out this fabric to cut it.  I originally was going to go all black for this pattern when I saw it on the pattern cover, I really liked the simplicity of the jumpsuit in all black.  I thought I could jazz it up with a sparkly silver belt and sparkly shoes.  Or dress it down with some cute pumps and a summer blazer.

I stood at my stash and looked for some black jersey and my eyes traveled over to this fabric.  I instantly thought hmmmmmmm, I wonder if I could pull this off.  Actually, I really wanted to get this fabric out of my stash.  It had been there for awhile and I had no earthly idea what I was going to do with it.  It was on sale I think at Fabric Mart for like $3.00 and something a yard, so me not being able to move pass a sale of any kind, I jumped on it.  When it came in the mail, I didn't even blink just tossed it in the stash.

Because the pattern of the fabric is so busy I decided to add some black contrast to it and used my black jersey for the sleeves and upper back.  Just to break  up the busyness of the fabric.  I thought if I used it for the entire garment it would look a little clownish, on me anyway.  I really like how it came out.

Annual Ski Trip/Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen/Fine Fabrics!

Hello all.  My Husband and I just returned this past Monday from our Annual Ski Trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  And yet again, I return ill.  Head cold, fever, chills, etc.  My body just doesn't not like the cold weather at all.

This will be our 6th year attending, and again we had a great time with family and friends in fellowship.  Lots of food, drinks and good times had by all. It is usually anywhere from 5 to 12 couples and a few singles who attend the trip every year.  The organizer of the trip is my cousins wife who has organized and or been involved with the annual ski trip for about 14 years now.

I didn't take many pictures this year, but here is sneak peak of our beautiful cabin:

On our way to Gatlinburg from Orlando, we stop in Atlanta, GA and spend the night with our family, and together we all drive up to Tennessee.  I also got to visit a restaurant in Atlanta, GA, that I had heard so much about, its is called Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen.  It was marvelous, so if you get an opportunity to visit one, check it out.   I had the best calamari and scallops that I have ever had.  The service was quick and the atmosphere was awesome.

I also got to make a quick stop at Fine Fabrics in Norcross, GA.  We do not have a wide selection of fabric stores in Orlando or the surrounding areas.  We have a few specialty shops but they can be a little expensive.  I normally order online, or take part in the few nice things my local Joann's have every now and then.  I picked up some really nice knits, in some very beautiful colors, trying to prepare for spring:

I also purchased a pair of shears that I had heard about in one of my Facebook sewing groups.  Yes, they cut like butter, and I am in love.  The price was right at $26.00, and they do free sharpening for a life. Which doesn't help me much, with them being in Atlanta, and me in Orlando.  Oh and peep where they were made "GRMANY".  I couldn't stop laughing at the misspelling.  I wonder if they were really made there.  LOL.

Cut like butter!  And they are imported from "GRMANY"!  Hahahaha but they do cut amazingly!   #Itsmelaniedarling #seamstress #scissors #shears #cuttingfabric

McCalls 6991: Twist Front Cross Body Top.

This is a top that has taken the fashion world by storm. This type of top has been highlighted since 2013 in most of the fashion lines.   I was really excited about making it and knew that it would be with a Jersey Knit, because I wanted the drape to be as draped as possible.  I love this style as it hides a multitude of midsection issues.

I found the instructions to be very confusing, so I jut kind of did my own thing, and it came out just as I expected.  I omitted the pocket as well.    I do plan to make it again, in a structured fabric.
