My 47th Birthday was Sunday February 22, though we celebrated on Saturday since my Son could only come home for a few hours for my birthday. I decided to make myself a jumpsuit and also to submit it in a Facebook Sewing group contest, but I got sick with the flu last week so needless to say it didn't happen. So I finished it up on Monday night.
My vision for this Jumpsuit McCalls 7099 took a drastic turn when I laid out this fabric to cut it. I originally was going to go all black for this pattern when I saw it on the pattern cover, I really liked the simplicity of the jumpsuit in all black. I thought I could jazz it up with a sparkly silver belt and sparkly shoes. Or dress it down with some cute pumps and a summer blazer.
I stood at my stash and looked for some black jersey and my eyes traveled over to this fabric. I instantly thought hmmmmmmm, I wonder if I could pull this off. Actually, I really wanted to get this fabric out of my stash. It had been there for awhile and I had no earthly idea what I was going to do with it. It was on sale I think at Fabric Mart for like $3.00 and something a yard, so me not being able to move pass a sale of any kind, I jumped on it. When it came in the mail, I didn't even blink just tossed it in the stash.
Because the pattern of the fabric is so busy I decided to add some black contrast to it and used my black jersey for the sleeves and upper back. Just to break up the busyness of the fabric. I thought if I used it for the entire garment it would look a little clownish, on me anyway. I really like how it came out.
Happy Sewing!
