MyMomma: Simplicity 1589

Look who retired on Wednesday, yes my Momma.  I am so proud of her.  After 34 faithful years of service to Orlando Health, she has retired.  She is now free to come over to my home anytime she wants and command what she wants, and I don't mind at all.

When my Momma ask me for something, I jump to it.  I don't think it is anything this women could ask that I would walk across hot rocks to do.  She is an amazing woman, who I hope to one day even be half the women she is.  She makes me so proud of her.  I salute you Mom.

I decided to Make Mom something pretty for her because she's such a Divas as you can see:

When I first got Simplicity 1589, I knew I wanted to make a couple of these for the summer.  The look so easy peasy and summery.  I bought this beautiful remnant, a little less than a yard and a half of a Animal Print Challis, a few years ago. I thought it would make a pretty scarf.  Threw it in my remnant bin and never really thought much more about it, until I decided what I wanted to make my Momma for her retirement gift.   She loves it.

Simplicity 1375 - Linen Blend Pullover Dress with Drawstring Waist and Peekaboo Sleeve

This dress came together very nicely and I love the fit of it.  It was easy to make and I can see a few more in my future.  The fabric is fantabulous, and these pics does it absolute no justice.  The fabric is a linen blend with a gold shimmer throughout.  I originally purchased this fabric for pants, but changed my mind after looking for a fabric to pair with this pattern.  I knew immediately when I got the pattern that I would be doing View "E" first.   The V neck front is sloped very low, so I will definitely being wearing a camisole or tank under it as my puppies will not stay focused and or in check.  LOL.

Me in my Denim Shirt Dress - Simplicity 2894

Just a quickie post.  I've been challenged to take more pictures in the garments I make.  I usually don't have anyone to take photos of me.  I leave for work at 6:30 a.m. and go to straight to the gym when I get off.

I was able to get a photo of me in my denim shirt dress:

Simplicity 2894 - Denim Shirt Dress

I've been wanting a simple but cute denim dress forever.  I recently saw one in Macy's that I love, but of course I was not going to pay $100 for something I could make.  I searched high and low for a tunic pattern because I wanted my dress to fit like a tunic, with a little flair.  I've had this pattern for some time now, but was not too interested in it in the beginning.  Not until I searched my pattern stash for a pattern to achieve the look I was going for.  The construction of this dress was simple and easy so I do see a crisp white linen one in my future.

The Month of May - Ebay Pattern Haul

It is already the middle of May and I have not accomplished all I had hoped by now, but I have gotten some client work done.  I have so many irons in the fire, and I just can't seem to focus on just one.  I have completed several projects, but I am not able to show any of them as of yet.  When I do client projects I do not like to share them until I deliver them to my clients and get approval.

On to other business.  I have been working on my wardrobe and starting new endeavors to help me stay on track and to focus on my wardrobe vision.  I often peruse Ebay and Etsy looking for unique patterns,  as I love to find vintage and older patterns with character or that gets my attention.  Here are a few of my finds so far this month:

I have already picked fabric for a couple of these and can't wait to get started. So lets see how many of these I can get too before the month is over.  I am working on my Get Her Style for May, the info in an earlier post is here: Get Her Style.  I have picked two looks and started working on the patterns to get the look I want.  Stay tuned.

Florida Be Like: More Pants! Simplicity 1618 - View "D".

Summer is upon us here in the lovely state of Florida, and this is about how its going here right now:

It could literally be sunny in one moment, and five minutes later, storming.

Since the weather has been so muggy lately, I wanted to make clothing I could wear on a hot sunny to rainy day that wouldn't stick and that would breathe.   Since I am going through this pants thing, and learning to make them fit me exactly how I'd like them too, I decided to make me a comfy pair this past weekend.

Very simple, and the fit is perfect.  I plan to get a lot of wear of these.  Happy Sewing

MAY'S GET HER STYLE: Lupita Nyong

I don't follow fashion trends.  I consider my style classic and simple.  I just like what I like.  I do follow fashion though and occasionally will jump on a bandwagon of sorts, like peplums, and printed pants.  They have been hot the last couple of seasons and I couldn't resist making me a peplum top and some printed pants.
I am starting a monthly feature on my blog, called “GET HER STYLE”.   On the first of the month I will showcase a person who’s style I like and I will attempt to copy, recreate, mimic whatever it’s called, a  style/outfit that person is featured in.

There is a young lady that has come on the scene quite fiercely and I am in love with her outer beauty and persona.  She has a style that fits her to the “T”, and she is gorgeous in my eyes.  I love everything about her hair, makeup and of course her choice of clothes. That is why I am spotlighting her this month on my blog:

LUPITA NYONG

I will choose a couple of her styles to copy soon, so stay tuned.  Happy Sewing!
