New Look 6351: Relax Fit Denim Pants! Perfect for a Casual Friday!

Fridays are casual days in our office.  I work for a Law Firm and I am very cautious about how I dress down for casual Fridays.  It was an office joke that I was dressed up not down for casual Fridays.  To be honest working in corporate america for so many years without a casual day, I really didn't know how to dress down.  I would wear a suit, dress or dress pants with a jacket Monday through Friday, pantyhose and heels included.   So I decided to revamp my wardrobe a little and try and dress it down a little.  I don't care to wear jeans because most of my jeans I don't feel are corporate appropriate, but I love denim.  So I made these relaxed fit denim pants that feel like butter on.

The fabric is from Joann's and I didn't want anything stiff or uncomfortable, but something loose that could still be crisp for work. NewLook 6351 was a perfect pattern for what I was looking for.

Friday Casual in my relax fit Denim pants with side and back pockets!  NewLook 6351!   Love them, so comfy.  Details on the blog, blog address in profile  #Itsmelaniedarling #sewologist #seamstress #sewing #sewist #sewcialist #sewingblogger #asewinglife #

The Conventional Circle Skirt Revolution!

I have been doing a lot of sewing but not much posting. It is prom and wedding season and I have been so busy with Prom Dresses and Wedding Dress alterations.  I have not had time to sew for myself in a very long while.  I have even started a new business venture with a very good friend/seamstress whom I have known for years.  We have contemplated on several occasions on doing some kind of collaboration, and while helping one another on various projects we decided to combine knowledge and experience launch a new venture, Customhousedesigns (More about that soon, so stay tuned).

I love mixing prints and using very unconventional fabrics.  I see fabric in everything and it seems as though the lovelier fabrics are non apparel fabrics, such has home decor.

Here are a couple of my latest designs.

A Certain Curtain Skirt!

Everywhere I look I see the potential for a garment.  Window Curtains, Shower Curtains, Bedding, Table Cloths, etc.   Nothing to me is off limits.  I have used car upholstery leather to make bags and clutches and shower curtains to make skirts, and tops.  Sometimes the fabrics used to make curtains and other home good items are such better and quality and prettier designs than apparel fabric.

This particular circle skirt was made from a single window curtain panel. I just love how it came out and it flows when you walk.
