Learning about FBA

I was reading a few blogs, and since I am a big busted girl, I wanted to learn all about FBA Full Bust Alterations.  I read somewhere a long time ago that most commercial patterns are drafted for a B cup.  I am a "D" and I have sewn so many garments where I didn't get a good result in that area, so of course my interest was peaked.

This picture is from the web and is for illustration purposes only.

So, I slothed around blogland to get all the information I could and I was able to find some great articles that I will share:

1. sewmamasew.com (very good article on FBA with illustrations).
2. threedresses.wordpress.com (good information and places to find more information)
3. megannielsen.com (very good instructions and illustration).

There are so many more websites with information, just wanted to share a few that I was able to follow along with.  I have not had an opportunity to do a FBA as of yet, but I plan to practice really soon.

If you ladies out there have articles or information you would like to share I would appreciate all the help I could get.

Happy creating.

  1. Have you checked Debbie's FBA method on princess cut pattern?. All her tutorials are so easy to do with illustrations, am a big fan of her blog, you can check it out. Here is the link

  4. I've never heard this term (FBA) before, but I'm a DD, so I guess if I ever use a pattern I didn't draft, I'll need it!

    1. Mackenzie, I didn't know about it either. I haven't used it because I am intimidated by it. Let me know if it works for you.

  5. Melanie, I just found your blog, and *love* it. Thanks so much for this post in particular. My daughter is an H cup (no typo), and has such a hard time finding off the rack shirts that fit. (No idea where that came from... I am an A!) If I can build my sewing skills, maybe I can start making her great stuff with these tips!

    1. elwalker, I know that has to be difficult for. My sisters and I are all "D" cups, and our mother is an "A". So, I can relate to both of you. I am still not an expert at FBA, but I am trying to become an expert. I'll share whatever else I may learn on my journey. And I bet your daughter is beautiful.
