MYSTYLE: Ruffle Front Top Burda 6456

This is one of my favorite items this spring.  I love it, just the simplicity of it makes it adorable.   I can dress this sleeveless top up or down.  With dress pants, shorts, or a skirt.  it is so very very versatile.  Its made of a lightweight shirting from Joann Fabric.   

Very quick and simple top to make.

MYSTYLE: New Look 6519: Kimono Sleeve Top

I absolutely love the simplicity of this top.  I am really starting to like these simple New Look patterns. They make, making a garment quick and simple with several variations to receive different looks . It was such a quick make I was not even going to post about it.  But I decided to do a quick post because the color popped and the fabric is heavenly.  It's a Techno textured knit.  It is a 4 way stretch that I picked up at Fine Fabrics in Atlanta.    The Fabric is so soft.  

I could literally see a closet full of these tops.  You can dress them up or down, it really is a great wardrobe staple.

Pattern Deets:

1.   New Look 6519

2.   I used a Techno Knit with texture

3.   I hemmed the bottom and sleeves using my coverstitch machine

4.   I added 3 inches to the belt tie so that it could wrap around my body, the pattern makes for it to tie only in the front of the top. 

5.   I also didn't use any facing, I just hemmed the cut edges.

MYSTYLE: McCalls 6084 - Cardigain in Forest Green Ponte Knit

Working on adding some simple but effective pieces to my wardrobe.  This cardigan was very easy to make, about an hour and half from cut to hem.  

I needed something to wear to my Husband's co-worker birthday dinner party which was held at a restaurant.  I always freeze at restaurants, so I new I wanted to wear sleeves, but didn't want to have to put on a jacket or something heavy.  It was a beautiful night and the weather was cool but not cold outside.  

I have had this pattern in my stash for awhile, and I have always wanted to make it and never got around to it.  I got off from work on Friday, and whipped this baby up about an hour before we were due to leave the house.  Gave me plenty time to shower and  fix my face (picutres don't show it though, tee-hee).

              

Pattern Deets:

1.   McCalls 6084 

2.   I used a Ponte Roma Knit (my favorite choice of knit fabrics)

3.   I hemmed the bottom and sleeves using my coverstitch machine

4.   I cut about 3 inches off of bottom, as the pattern is long and I wanted more of a top than cardigan look 

5.   The pattern doesn't call for it but I made a sash/tie for a different look (didn't use the tie on this particular night)

MYSTYLE: Simplicity 1366 - Camisole - Silver Blue

I love this Silver Blue Camisole.  Though the picture looks more silver than blue, it is actually a lovely blue.  Can you ever have enough?  I don't think I can.  I have made several and intend to make several more.  My life will be complete when I have them in every color.  The are perfect for suits, and over cute skirts and jeans.  Very date night easy.

This was on my vision board to do early in January, but with obligations and life situations I never got to it.  I was deteremined to atleast get it cut out and started.  Who knows when it will be done, but I am hoping within the next week or so.  

I always try to get a pattern cut and started, that way I am forced to look at it constantly and reminded that I have posted about it, so I need to get it complete.  

I really like the lines and style of this pattern.  The fabric I chose is floral  lawn form Fabricmart.com. I have actually had it my stash for over a year.  This fabric was originally going to be used to make a spring clutch purse, and that this why I only purhased 2 yards.  This pattern requried a little over 2 yardsfor the size I cut, but as always manage to make it fit.  Wooo and I mean I had no room for error.

It is coming together nicely so far, even though the insruction and pattern pieces seem to be a little more than required for the button plackard, Once it is complete I will do a quick review.  I am really liking how it is coming out and excited about finishing it up and styling, so stay tuned.

Making Progress: McCalls 9147

I have decided that this pattern will be used  to several tops in different variations and colors and I can't wait to make them.  It is very simple and and straight forward pattern.  The "Tucks" at the waist as they are called, not "Darts" are awesome and can be adjusted to make the fit more flattering on the body. 

I am not done, it still needs to be hemmed and an the bottom added but I wanted to share my progress and I am so excited about this particular top.   Here you can see the phases as it take shape.

Color Me Pretty: Simplicity 1161

This top was a really quick and easy top to make.  I wanted something cute to wear with leggings for an outing.  I purchased this fabric at Joann's months ago as usual it sat in my stash with no particular idea in mind. 

After looking through my pattern and trying to figure out what I could make, I came across this pattern.  I thought it be very playful with this multicolored fabric.  Though the cover photo on the pattern to me was not impressive at all, I did have a vision in mind.   Simplicity 1161, was awesome for this particular fabric.  The way it flows,and the colors just came together effortlessly.  

I could definitely see several of these in my summer wardrobe, especially a black or light blue eyelet fabric.  I would love to make one longer, maybe even as a maxi in a very nice soft knit fabric. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.   What do you think?

Double Ruffle off The Shoulder Top/Dress worn by SweeneeStyle!

I had the honor and privilege to make a garment for one my favorite Fashion Style Bloggers SweeneeStyle.  She has inspired me for a long time. Her style is so chic and fashion forward.  She can take the most simplistic item and make it into a fashion show piece.  She is constantly on my radar.  

I love seeing others in my designs, and checking out how they style the garments I make for them.  It is so interesting to me to see what a person sees from fashion view point.  We can all wear the same piece but style it so very differently and get a whole different look.  

The top/dress I made for her was self drafted. I actually asked her what she would like to have made for inspiration, and she sent a pic of a dress that she liked. Off the shoulder is one of her best style aesthetics that she wears often, and wears it well.  I love how she styled a similar top on one of her blog posts, so when I thought about making her garment using her inspiration, it came to me instantly.  

The top was self drafted and I love the fullness that the doubled ruffle makes.  I curved the hem and lengthened it just enough to help it flair a little. It can be worn as both a top and or dress.   The fabric is a lightweight denim.  She paired it with white Jeans and the most gorgeous heels.   Check out more picture of how she styled the ensemble.

Burda 7340: Asymmetrical Top with Side Slit

Sometimes I just want something easy peasy to wear our and about on my shopping days.  I chose this top because of my constant need to conquer my Burda fear and addiction.  This was one of the simplest tops I've ever made.  It just made me feel like I conquered another Burda.  LOL

Burda Young 7146: Tops

As you know I live in Florida.  I just can't bring myself to make or even buy a coat.  We have such sporadic and short winters, I find they just hang in my closet for years until I give them away.  So for at least the past 6 years I have not owned an overcoat.  I usually just layer, and or wear hoodies and zipper jackets.  I do own a Michael Kors leather jacket that I absolutely love. 

At first glance of this pattern, I thought, well its on sale, but I doubt if I sew anything from it.  Of course I see Burda Young and I think about teenagers.  But after this weekends cold snap where we got down into the low 40's, I decided I needed to revisit and try View "A".  Its perfect for layering, and just cute enough to wear casually with my boots and leggings.

The pattern was super simple and didn't even have to pay much attention to instructions.  Burda and I have a love hate relationship, so I usually just review the instructions then toss them to the side and do my thing.  That's exactly what I did here.  It came together nicely and I can't wait to style if for you guys, so stay tuned.

Simplicity 1661: Animal Print Tie Front Top

Another day, another top.  Its getting quite lovely when I open up my closet door and see all my lovely new tops.  I have incorporated more colors than ever and to add a little splash, I've thrown in a lovely silk animal print top.  

This top has great potential, just because of the little details.  I especially like that I can tie the tie high on my neck or let it hang lower depending on the look I'm going for.  I also can see a few more of these in my closet come spring.    There is a little flair with the hi-lo effect and and penguin tale (what I call it).   It was every easy to make and from cut to finish took me about 2 1/2 hours.

Simplicity 1280: Pink Polka Cross Body Top.

As you may be aware I have been sewing tops to rebuild my wardrobe after donating a lot of items this past month, so I decided to make November my month of tops and make both casual and dress tops.  

When I came across this pattern: Simplicity 1280, I knew immediately that I would be making this more than once.  I saw so many different color and fabric options for this top in my head.   

I was gifted this particular fabric from a co-worker who Mother passed and she was seamstress.  She gave me a little over 3 yards so I wasn't sure I wanted to make a whole garment like a dress or pant set in this particular design, I thought it would be way too much.  So when I came across this pattern, this piece of fabric came instantly to mind, plus I am a nut for Polka Dots.  

It was fairly easy to put together, though I made one modification.  I extended the sleeve length, because I didn't care for who short the fell on the model on the pattern front.  It just looked a little out of place for me.   The pictures also look a little red, but the fabric color is actually a really deep pink.

Therapeutic Sewing! Burda 7202

Sewing to take my mind off the loss of my father.  I so need to beef up my fall wardrobe so I decided to make myself a few tops and the first one I chose was Burda 7202.  I do not particularly like Burda patterns only because I find the instructions somewhat confusing.  Whenever I sew a Burda Pattern, I find myself just doing it my way based on the pattern pieces.

McCall's 6797 - the Asymectrical Knit Top

My Serger is fastly becoming my new best friend. Battling with a knits over the years have taken me to new heights.  I almost totally wrote off sewing with knits.  But now I feel just as comfortable with knits as I do with non stretch fabrics.  Actually I prefer to work with knits, especially double knits and of course my favorite knit fabric Ponte Roma Knit.

McCall's 6650 - Animal Print Pussy Bow Blouse/Top

I have always lovde the "Pussy Bow".  It is just something about it that is almost regal to me.  I've been holding this pattern for months and I knew immediately when I saw it I wanted to make it.  I had cut out a beautiful yellow rayon fabric with a paisley contrasting fabric for the bow. But I was perusing another blog, and spotted a Pussy Bow Blouse, and I knew this pattern would be perfect.  I wanted something soft but with an edge, and so I decided to use an animal print sweater knit I had in my stash with contrasting black bow and cuffs.

I made a few modifications:  omitted the placard in the back and added contrasting cuffs.  I love how it came out, and I can see myself with a couple more of these.  What do you guys think?
