Merry Christmas - Belated!

The past couple of days have been a whirlwind for me.  My sons are home, one from the Airforce and the other from college.  My son BJ's girlfriend is also here from college.  So we have been celebrating our boys homecoming with family and friends, so not much sewing or creating the past couple of days.  Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Playing Catchup.

I've been extremely busy with my sons basketball games, trying to full fill all the pre-holiday orders I so not intended to take on.  Its been a busy life, but I am glad to be alive so I won't complain.  Today, I finally got in the mail a package to a friend that I have met on a Face Book group I participate in called, Sew Up.  We share Ideas, our talents and support one other.  We decided to have a gift swap and this what I made for my new Sewing Sister:

Boy I hope she like it.

Prayers! Horrific Tragedy in Connecticut.

I am tired.  Its been a long day.  The horrific news of today's shooting in Connecticut sent me in a whirl of confusion and sadness.  I just can't and will never understand.   I know this person who committed such a heinous crime may have been ill, crazy sick, or whatever.  Right now I don't care, why or about his disposition.  I can only feel ill about how the family's of the loss lives must be feeling right now.

It is being reported at this hour that those bodies are still lying in the school.  It is still an active crime scene.  So not only do you know that your love one is gone, your child, as to the adults, maybe your wife, mother, sister, etc., but you know they are still lying there.  You can't see them, hold them touch them, all you have are your memories and your unanswered questions.

I wish we could pray this away, but we can't.  Please hug those you love today, please call those who you haven't spoken too and miss, please say a prayer for those affected.  Godspeed to all affected by this tragedy.

The Party Dress!

Well here we are at the final hour and I've been so busy getting ready for the holidays, work, and preparing for the boys (my young men's) arrival that I have let the end of the week sneak up on me.  I finally decided on a dress for my holiday party, McCalls Fashion Star M6553.  I like it, but not sure if I love it.

I wanted something a little more fitted, maybe a little more dramatic though the party is semi formal.  I choose this pattern for the looseness.  I can get my dance and my eat on and not worry about popping a button or a ripping a zipper.

It is cut out and laying on my table waiting to be finished, yep, my party is Saturday evening.  It will get done today, after work and dinner is prepared.

Here goes:

This will be my first Fashion Star pattern.  I cut out the 18, which now that I look back on it, I should have probably done the 16, I understand from reading other blogs there is a lot of ease in this pattern.  I read Mimi G pattern review (Here).  She is such an amazing dressmaker, and makes everything she wears look beautiful.

I am using a red Ponte Roma Knit from Joann's.  The color is rich and beautiful and has a sheen to it on both sides. I have not decided on a shoe as of  yet, but I am sure that will be the least of my issues.

Running Out of Time! What to Wear to the Holiday Party!

I just realized that I am running out of time. I have a Holiday party coming up on the 15th of this month.  Its Semi Formal, and I have absolutely nothing to wear (that I want too, LOL), in my closet.  Oh my, I guess that means I have to go out and buy something.  Yeah right, that will not be happening.  I want a little black red dress.  I've been searching the web, and the different pattern companies, but I haven't found that ONE yet.  You know that catches your eye and puts you into shock.

This is what I am looking for EXACTLY.  I could really dress this simple dress up to my liking:

I have a couple other options I'm considering, the first:

Basically the same dress at the top, but more fitted with a little light ruffle action.  I would use a nice sparkly silver vest and clutch and instead of boots some pointed two pumps.

I'm liking this outfit minus the jewelry as an option as well.  Simple enough to make I think.  I'm thinking some silver bling bling would be nice instead of the jewelry here:
